Why did i choose to come to Xavier University of Louisiana. I choose to come to this school because i always wanted to go here since i was a little child. And in my senior year of high school, when it was time for me to fill out my college applications Xavier was one of the first i filled out. They were one of the first schools to accept me. After I got the acceptance letter from Xavier I didn’t even bother filling out any more applications cause this was my dream school. Another reason why i choose to go to Xavier over the other schools i applied to is because it is close to home. I really didn’t want to go that far away from my family. Also i received grants and scholarships to attend this school. It is the number one school to go to when you are applying to medical school. I also choose to attend Xavier because I like how big and beautiful the campus is. I really enjoy the activites and the clubs that the school offers. Even the volunteer work it does to help its surrounding community. Another reason why i choose Xavier was because I felt like it was the best school to future my education. And because everyone who graduates from here is successful in life.
I choose to come to Xavier University of New Orleans because of the Pre-Med program. The Pre-Med program is one of a kind. Xavier University is the number one Historically Black College or University (HBCU) in America to have their pre-med students accepted into Med school. Their reputation is outstanding in my eyes; I could not believe the perfect college for me was in my hometown. Addition to the reputation, my family has history at Xavier. My grandmother on my dad’s side received a degree from Xavier and so did my aunt and cousin. My grandmother and aunt did not come to Xavier for the Pre-Med program but my cousin, Dr. Mia Harris, did and I desire to follow in her footsteps. Also, through family and personal acquaintances, I know a generous amount of people at Xavier. I feel like family here. I feel at home. Another reason I choose Xavier is a real personal one, my grandmother on my mother’s side has Alzheimer’s disease so she needs someone to remind her to take her pills and to refresh her memory on small things like what day is it and whether or not she has gone to the senior center that day or not. But the reigning and biggest factor on choosing Xavier as my number one college is the cost. Xavier’s tuition is considerably less than the other colleges I applied to and since Katrina, money has not been in a short supply but I am very VERY FAR from being rich.
Why did I choose to come to Xavier? Good question. I wish I had some kind of touching, heartfelt story of how I ended up over here, but frankly, I don’t. I chose Xavier, because like most Asians, my parents wanted me to pursue a career in pharmacy. That’s great and all, I’m thankful for them trying to watch out for me after years of nagging, but I decided I wanted to try out pre-pharmacy anyway, not for them, but for myself. To be totally honest, the only reason I’m even at Xavier is because it’s 6.5 miles away from my house and happens to have a 2+4 accelerated pharmacy program. Now, I was going to do the 2 years of pre-pharmacy at University of New Orleans, and I probably would have been there right now if I hadn’t heard that
Xavier gives preference towards their own students when applying to Pharmacy School, so that’s why I’m here. Even though it’s more expensive than pubic universities, and I’d much rather buy a car ever year for roughly $17k a year, I’m hoping that everying will pay off once I’m able to get into pharmacy school, plus the seemingly enriching (too early to tell) educational experience I’ll receive.
I choose to go to Xavier one for their Pre-Med program. Secound because I have always wanted to attend a Historically Black University. They had the two qualities I was looking for in a school. I am from California and coming to Louisiana, I knew would be an experience in itself. Since I have been here I have meet so many people that are willing to help and care that you be all you can be! I am very pleased that I made the decision to go to Xavier!
Why I choose to go to Xavier University
Why did I choose to go to Xavier University: Pre-Med program. Actually, I had little knowledge of Xavier’s program when I was applying to college. In my book, Xavier didn’t have the “good” college name such as Loyola and Tulane. I had applied to LSU, Loyola, and Xavier. Loyola being my first choice, Xavier second and LSU last. LSU was last for two reasons: location (two hours away from my home) and its reputation as the “party school”. LSU is also known for its overcrowded classes, and I am one of those people who need the attention of a professor. In the middle of my senior year, I had acceptance to all colleges. And at the time I had decided to go to Loyola. I had earned a fairly good scholarship and really liked the campus. I also knew a few people who attended Loyola too. It wasn’t until all those people started transferring to Xavier because Loyola had a horrible Pre-Med department. Not to mention it didn’t give them any attention like it did to its other department. So at the end I decided to attend Xavier. I’m really happy with Xavier life. I like all my classes and professors so far. I’m not having too hard of a time adjusting from high school to college. Most of my professors explain things very clearly so I have no confusion…especially in subjects like Chemistry. In the end, I really happy with my decision. I think if I had attended Loyola or LSU, I would have been miserable. So my main advise to all my high school friends who are applying to college is : do your research.
I chose to come to Xavier because it is the number one school for sending African American’s to Med School. I feel like Xavier will give me all the tools that are necessary for me to ultimately because a doctor. The reputation alone was enough for me to want to come here. I also chose Xavier because I met a few people in Boston who graduated from Xavier. (I’m from Boston by the way!)Then they were accepted to Harvard Medical School. That is the type of path I would like to follow. The tuition for Xavier isn’t that bad. It’s affordable. My family really likes the school and they believe i will do well here. I also appreciate the fact that it’s far away from home. So not only do I have to focus on school but I’m learning how to be independent. I no longer have my parents by my side and because of that, I feel that this experience is going to prepare me for when I do have to support myself. I believe I’ve made a great decision thus far. The only thing I not impressed with is the hurricanes! We have hurricanes in boston but they’re not as destructive as the ones down here. Anyway, I’m glad I decided to attend Xavier. I’ve met some great friends and have had some fun experiences and i’m sure there is plenty more to come!
I chose to come to Xavier University because of their Pre-Med program. They have been the number one school for getting African Americans into med school for the past 14 years. (I believe) Their ability to do this seemed unwavering so I decided to come here. Ever since I was a little girl, I wanted to become a doctor. I wasn’t sure what type I wanted to be, but I knew I wanted to be a doctor. While searching for colleges, my aunt told me about Xavier. The same week, I met a lady who went to Xavier, attended Harvard Med-School, and now she is in her residency. That is the same path I want to take. I took it as a sign and decided to come to Xavier. Hopefully Xavier lives up to my expectations. I also came to this school because the tuition was cheaper than all the schools in the north. This school is also in an area where the weather stays in the range of 90 to 100 degrees. The north’s weather is cold and unbearable. So a change in climate was nice. Overall, Xavier is a really nice school. I love it. I’m happy with my decision to come here. I know ill be able to get into med school. I have already made a bunch of new friends. I really miss my friend at home but the friends I have here have made it much easier for me to adjust. My friends are all from out of state just like me so it makes it easier to cope to with home sickness. Overall, I’m just enjoying the four years I’m going to spend here. Xavier is wonderful!!!!
Xavier University was my first choice in universities I wanted to attend. I chose to come here because for a number of reasons. One you could say was its perfect location in Louisiana. For a long time I lived in Louisiana and often enjoyed everything the city had to offer. With the campus’s current location it is really not that far from many restaurants, great hang out spots, and a couple of good choices in transportation. Wether its a car, a bus, walking, and or the street cars, any one is a good choice to navigate around the city. Which will take you to the many exciting places that can be visited in Xavier’s immediate area. Mostly all fo these places are packed with a blend of people with lots of different cultures. I find it nice to meet someone new, especially when you can learn something that I might not known yet.Besides the location, the great support system swayed my decision to Xavier; includes the professors, counselors, advisors, tutors, and all the staff members at Xavier University. It feels wonderful to know that XAvier has so much helpthat is offered to ensure that each student achieves the right grades. Within the classroom, is what I was worried about most. Doubts on if I was going to be able to do the work, or if I could be able to find enough help in my studies filled my head. All thoses feeling went away when i saw how well the Pre-Med Program has been doing over the last couple years. To point out BIO PRE-MED is my major, so that was very encouraging to this incoming Freshmen. But I can truly say that the final decision came from the campus tour i went on before starting the Fall semester. It was the best tour i went on! My feet wasn’t hurting from walking around campus, the buildings were not separated by high traffic streets, and the dorm were better then I expected. I could picture myself going to Xavier, which was what I wanted. I wasn’t expecting to find an university that would fulfill all my wants, Im glad there is a Xavier University of Louisiana! I got what I wanted and now im going to makee the best of it.
I decided to come to Xavier University because of their profound pre-med program. This was not my first choice, but it was a considering choice. I only considered coming here because my counselor said that it was a great school for medical students. I was skeptical about the school because of hurricane Katrina I did not know if the school was back normal. So I decided to come to the school with my parents to make my final decision. I fell in love with the school everything about this school was amazing. I liked everything about the school. I really liked the atmosphere and the school was beautiful, and all the students loved being here. My tour guide was very welcoming and nice; she told me her perspective of the school and that made me like it even more. I could see that the students were nice and willing to help new students. Not only did I talk to here, but I talked to another student, who was going to be a senior, he told me that he loved being at the school. He also was around for hurricane Katrina and he had went to another school for those couple of months and he said that the school he went to was not like Xavier; the students were not like a family. They didn’t help each other as much as the Xavier students. When he said that, it made me want to come to this school even more than my first choice.
Why did I choose to attend Xavier University? I have always known since I was in middle school that I would attend Xavier University. I was always told if you want to become a doctor you should attend Xavier, hearing those words of advice is how I ended up becoming interested in Xavier. While in high school I had other options of universities to attend but I basically had my mind set on Xavier. My mom and grandmother tried to get me to look at other options like out of state, but my mind was still set. While my dad and other grandmother wanted me to attend Louisiana State University or Southern University A&M because most of my family attended those universities and to be even closer to home. I decided to attend Xavier University because of the well-known biology pre-med program and it was known for putting the most African American students in medical school. Choosing Xavier was not a hard decision because I like the fact that it is small University where you can actually communicate with your professor. I also chose Xavier because it is a historically black university. It was an even better decision to choose Xavier because it was closer to home. Being that home is only 35 minutes away I can go home every weekend and every holiday. I couldn’t imagine moving out of state and having to pack all of my belongings. I know that choosing Xavier was a good decision because of the excellent reputations people have given Xavier and in meeting every Xavier graduate every one of them has been successful
Why did I choose to go to Xavier? Well, while I was in high school, Xavier actually was not on my “schools to apply to” list. I only had three schools on my list. But, one day my grandmother was talking to one of my cousins. And, my cousin’s son went and graduated from Xavier. As a matter of fact, my cousin and his wife graduated from Xavier. And, my grandmother called me the next day, and told me that he said that I should apply here because of my major being pre-med; biology. She did not tell me that much about what he had said. So, she gave him my number, and we talked a little while about why I should apply to Xavier. After I sent in my information, I received a letter telling about Xavier’s number one ranking in having most African-American’s make it through medical school. When I read that letter, I almost instantly decided that this was the school that I wanted to attend. But, then after I had applied and got accepted, I still could not make up my mind. I found myself stuck between staying in Memphis or going ahead and coming down to New Orleans. I really had planned on going to school in Tennessee, because I was not sure if wanted to leave home. When I made up my mind to come to Xavier, I came down here in the summer for a math program. And, even though I was only here for barely two months, I really enjoyed the time that I was here. I loved everything about the school. So, I had made up my mind that I would attend Xavier University of Louisiana.
Why did I choose to come to Xavier is the same question that I ask myself all the time. The answer is really simple actually. It was the only option. Yes there were other schools that I was accepted into but Xavier is the only one that made since. Since I’m from New Orleans, I knew a few people that went to Xavier before me. They say its hard but you really had to work at it if you wanted to make it through. I’m sure the other schools would have been a little easier but I wanted a challenge. I wanted to go somewhere that I would have to put my all into making the grade. I’m proud of my decision and so is my family. My mom brags all the time to her friends about me. Xavier students are just as cool as the school is. I love it here!
I choose to attend Xavier University of Louisiana for many reasons. The first reason, was I knew since ninth grade that I wanted to attend an HBCU. I also knew that I wanted to be a doctor in medical research. Those were to very important factors in my college decision. There was also another major factor. I had to play basketball for the school I attended. Looking at all the HBCU their were only two schools to chose from, Xavier or Howard. These schools were at the top of the list for placing African Americans in to Medical school.Another major factor was basketball.Looking at Howard’s Womens basketball record they win an average of three games a year, and Xavier averages 25. That was an automatic selling point for me. Placing Xavier as my number one pick, I pursued my research and decised to take an offical visit to the school. My visit was not an ordinary one, it was a visit from the basketball prospective. I spent several days in ew Orleans, and loved every moment of it .I knew that on the very first day I stepped foot on this campus , that this was the place for me. I have never looked back nor regreted my decision. I love Xavier . I love being a Xaveritte.
I personally came to Xavier because it just felt like this is where I belonged. All my life i have been , in a way, trying to find myself. No one could ever help me with that but me. I believe it is almost necessary to get further education, but you cannot be forced to do that. Everywhere i went things didn’t work out. Either I didn’t feel comfortable at a particular school or I didn’t have enough funding to attend that school. Most importantly it wasn’t Xavier! Something deep down inside of me kept saying ‘go to Xavier, that is where you belong’. Even then I couldn’t get here; but i wasnt going to stop until i did. Everything about this school screamed ‘CNADACE’! The staff seemed so friendly, the campus was so clean, the students were so helping and their motto wasn’t every man for themselves. I needed a family and Xavier was exactly that. Just as I had a DRIVE to get here, Xavier has a DRIVE to keep me here and that is honestly why I chose to come to Xavier University of Louisiana.
I chose to come to Xavier, because their outstanding in academics. Since I was a little girl I always dreamed of being a neurosurgeon. The only college that came to mind was Xavier University. My aunt who is alumnae of this school told me all the great things about Xavier’s academics. She told me they were number one for putting blacks in medical school. I just had to find out more about this great, so on some occasions I would catch myself visiting the campus with her. I’ve always had Xavier as a number one choice in a college I would’ve loved to attend. Finally, my senior year came around and I applied for Xavier I got accepted and from there the rest is history. I know you all are probably wondering why I gave this long story. Well I’m just proving a point why I chose to come to Xavier. During my registration process to get into Xavier I had the help and support from each department at Xavier. Other schools don’t have the sources to help you in a particular subject. Here at Xavier you get all the help you can possibly get. Like a math lab or English tutoring. This school really supports its students in any way possible. I really didn’t get to see all that great stuff my aunt was talking about until I got here. I love the schools strive to help. I also love the friendly people here. I have yet to run into a mean student here at Xavier. Also what made me want to come here was, because I see that the students help each other in anyway possible. I love Xavier and I’m very happy I chose this as my school.
I am originally from New Orleans and I always passed Xavier on the way to elementary, middle, and high school. I would always say that I will NEVER go to Xavier becuase it was too close to home, but after moving to Texas after Katrina I began looking into Xavier. I asked my family about the school and I found out that my fathers sister graduated from Xavier as well as my mothers sister! I began to get very interested in Xavier so I filled out the application on the internet. I was pleased to see that I was accepted but most importantly I was pleased to see how quickly I got a response from the University.
We all know that Xavier is known for their science programs but that hadn’t grasped my mind until my senior year in highschool. When I heard that I was accepted I was extremely excited and I told everyone. Now that I am actually here its a whole different story….no im just kidding! I love Xavier more than I expected to love it. We have only been here for about a month and am in love with this school. The small community is what I like the most. Just like in New Orleans, every one knows everyone but you still are able to meet new people everyday! Even though my parents live in New Orleans, I live on campus and I truly do get the college experience that I had been thinking of since I was a child. I also like the academic side of Xavier. I feel like it is a challenge and I like challenges. I like the feeling of learning something that I think is irrelevant and then applying it to my real life. I can’t wait until the day that I can say I made it through a Xavier University education. I love Xavier and im glad I made the decision to come here.
I decided to come to Xavier University of Louisiana for many reasons. One of the reasons I chose to come to Xavier is because it was convenient. I also came to Xavier because of the family legacy I have here. Xavier was not my first choice of Schools. Actually it was not on the list at all. I had one school in mind that I wanted to go to, and that school was Morehouse. I was accepted into Morehouse, before I was accepted to Xavier. I chose not to attend Morehouse because I felt that I was not ready to leave home just yet. I still had a lot of play in me, and I knew that I was not ready. I was willing to sacrifice going to a school that I want to, than to go there and not be productive. I also came to Xavier because, I am a resident of New Orleans, I knew it would be convenient, because my family lived here. I never have to worry about simple stuff like, what am I going to eat. Not only the convenience I have a legacy of family who graduated from Xavier, and some that still attend Xavier. So me coming to Xavier just added on the the legacy in my family. I often want to go away for college, or often wonder how would it have been to go away. Mainly because many people tell me that I am not experiencing the real college experience by staying home. Even though I stayed at home, I know it was not a bad decision. Xavier University of Louisiana is a great institute for higher education, and I would not trade it for anything else.
I chose to come to Xavier University because an Xavierite, and close friend of mine, told me that they offered a great pre-med program. He explained to me that no undergraduate university would prepare me for medical school like Xavier would. I researched the school and I found out that they rank first in the nation in sending African Americans to medical school. I hope to become a heart surgeon in the future and right now my main focus is to get a bachelor’s degree in pre-med at an undergraduate school that will help me get into a good medical school. In being here over the summer, I learned that I made a good choice. Unlike most schools in the country, Xavier wants to see me, as an African American, succeed and they do all they can to help their students become successful in their future endeavors. The support and motivation to succeed that the faculty at Xavier University offers here is truly overwhelming and makes me feel good about the choice I made to come here. I am driven to succeed in life and this is where I need to be. The rest is up to me and the choices I make. I look forward to the next four years of my life at Xavier and hopefully these will be years to remember as I mature into the person that I hope to become in the future.
Choosing Xavier was really easier than I thought it would be. It was not about pursuing a specific major or following my friends. It was always an option, but I was never sure if Xavier was where I wanted to continue my education. A plethora of my family members graduated from Xavier–grandparents, aunts, cousins, and both of my parents. See, Xavier is like a tradition; it’s in our blood. I’m a traditional, classic girl. But does this mean it was my obligation to choose Xavier?
When I was a junior in high school, my very strong-willed grandfather would grab my hand and look me in the eye and in a firm, convincing tone along with a smile spelled X-A-V-I-E-R. I would just smile and say, “Yes, Paw-Paw.” This would satisfy him until the next time his memory of my going to college would override his dementia. He would continually drill this into my head as my senior year approached, and every time I would simply smile and reassure him. My mom told me that I didn’t have to go to Xavier and not to lie to my grandfather just to make him feel good. Well, I felt that anyway you can make an old person happy, go with it!
It was my duty, and I followed through…until the day God called him home. He passed away at the beginning of my senior year, and I chose to apply to Xavier that December. I had been accepted to other universities, but I was just like “yeah, yeah…I got accepted. No surprise.” After much anticipation, the acceptance letter from Xavier came. I was so ecstatic! I wasn’t even expecting myself to react that way. This was when I truly knew Xavier was undoubtedly the place for me. I just wanted to make my grandfather proud, first and foremost. I had basically promised him that Xavier would be my choice, and this commitment rested deep inside of me. Xavier was what I desired and needed. It was what my grandfather wanted for me, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Besides this deep aspect, Xavier is widely known for its outstanding academics, small population, family-like environment, and religious influence. All of these create a great atmosphere for a traditional girl like me!
Honestly,Xavier was not my first choice. My mother wanted me to attend Xavier University because of its excellent science background.I was never too fond of Xavier because i didnt know too much about it.I had also never visited New Orleans. In high school, i always said that i wanted to live far away from home. But when it came down to do so,i was against it. It was between Bennett college in North Carolina and Xavier University. In my opinion, the most intelligent choice was to choose Xavier. Im glad that i made the right choice, because im in love with New Orleans and its unique culture. I also enjoy being at Xavier University,my teachers are great and i have met some great people here from all different backgrounds.
There were many reasons why I chose to attend Xavier University of Louisiana. One of those reasons was because of Xavier’s standards and beliefs. Another reason why I chose Xavier University was because it is a HBCU. But my number one reason for choosing Xavier was, because it is number one for graduating African American’s to medical school. In high school I knew I wanted to be in the medical field but, I didn’t know what college would be best to prepare me for my future. Many medical professionals and teachers suggested that I look into Xavier. They stated that if I seriously wanted to pursue a career in medicine, I should attend Xavier. As I began my college search had many options, but Xavier continued to be number on my list. I didn’t want to attend school in Texas because; I didn’t want to be to close to home, but not too far either. Xavier wasn’t in Texas, but wasn’t too far from it. I also kept Xavier in mind because it was a Christian school and didn’t have any out of state fees. Therefore having my list of reasons of why I should attend Xavier, I applied. In fact Xavier was the only post-secondary school I applied to. And thanks be to God, I’m here. Since Xavier was the best, I figured I deserved to be amongst the best. I believe that Xavier will be the solid foundation I need to set my career to heights. These are the reasons I chose Xavier University of Louisiana.
Why did i choose to come to Xavier University? I chose to come to Xavier University of New Orleans because I want to work in the medical field and I felt Xavier could help me get to that point.Their Pre-Med program is like one of of its own kind. Xavier University is the number one Historically Black University in America to have their pre-med students accepted into medical school. There are not many reasons on my hands for why choose thie school but i really enjoy it.
